Program Objectives

The objective of BSc in Psychology is to train students through a systematic and scientific study of human behaviors and experiences, and to develop their ability to evaluate critical theories and evidence in the psychological and human sciences. In addition, the program aims to develop the students’ practical skills to enable them advance to further training in academic psychology and research or pursue careers in several areas of employment, from social to clinical, from learning to workplace. The program will familiarize students with the field of psychology and give them the necessary exposure to develop interest in the field and thus prepare them for a post-graduate program in psychology. It will enable students to:

  • Appreciate the different branches and emerging fields of psychology.
  • Understand the fundamental processes underlying human behavior and the process of human development and change from biological and psychosocial perspective.
  • Understand the different aspects of human behavior in the social, cultural and organizational context and thus better appreciate the effects of group membership on individual behavior.
  • Understand abnormal behavior and the various components that promote health and well-being.
  • Introduce students to the basic aspects of experimentation and testing in psychology so that they can competently conduct tests and experiments and write reports which are derived from those tests and experiments.
  • Familiarize students with basic statistical techniques and fundamentals of research methodology in the discipline of Psychology.

Successful completion of the program will enable students to work in a variety of institutions and organizations.
