MASTER OF EDUCATION (M.Ed.)

Program Objectives

The M.Ed. is a two-semester (1 year) professional degree program for teachers and others who work in the health and social sciences, as well as academic areas across higher education, community education, and business or industry.  Professional development is achieved through critical reflection, investigation, and application of theory and research to practice in communities.  The curriculum is based on the work done as teachers, leaders, and change agents in formal, non-formal, and community-based settings. The program will enable students to:

• Acquire foundational knowledge in the field of education.
• Acquire competence in evaluating and conducting research and scholarship in education.
• Communicate effectively with multiple constituencies in teaching and learning.
• Acquire skills in collaboration and in leadership.
• Acquire skills in cultural competence and global formation in education.
• Gain critical understanding of curriculum and pedagogy.
• Develop dispositions for continuous professional development and leadership.
• Competently carry out educational research.
• On successful completion of the program the graduate will be able to:
• Develop curriculum materials for teaching. 
• Implement evidence-based instructional strategies. 
• Demonstrate compliance with ethical educational standards. 
• Analyze professional educational resources.
• Implement data-driven decision making. 
• Formulate educational research topics and designs. 
• Engage in critical data-based reflection on educational practices.
